Brad Arthur has committed his future to Leeds Rhinos for two more seasons, extending his stay until the end of the 2028 campaign and closing down speculation that had linked him with a return to the NRL.
The timing matters because Arthur was expected to make a decision later this month, and Leeds are heading into the next phase of their rebuild with the club sitting top of the Super League ladder midway through the 2026 season. For supporters, it means the coach who arrived midway through the 2024 campaign is staying in place while the club tries to turn momentum into something more lasting.
Arthur said he was “really pleased” to extend his time at the club and said he had enjoyed every aspect of being part of Leeds. He pointed to the passion around the organisation, from players and staff to supporters, and said the club had already put a process in place to bring through the best young talent. He added that he was excited to see that work flourish over the coming years and that Leeds had a strong coaching, conditioning and medical team committed to the future.
That commitment carries more weight because Leeds have spent recent seasons trying to rediscover the consistency that once made them a force. Arthur’s arrival in 2024 was widely seen as a turning point, and the club’s position at the top of the ladder now gives his extension a sharper edge: this is no longer just about stability, but about protecting a title challenge while the season is still live.
There had been growing talk of a possible NRL return, which made the deal a live issue for Leeds rather than a routine contract update. Instead, Arthur has chosen to stay, and sporting director Ian Blease said the coach had brought leadership, professionalism and clarity to the rugby programme, while helping build a culture the club can continue to grow around. Blease added that securing Arthur’s future gives Leeds a stronger base to keep assembling a squad capable of challenging for major honours.
Arthur said Leeds are building something supporters can be proud of, and that he is looking forward to continuing that journey. With his future settled through 2028, the club now has a clear line from the present run at the top of Super League to the longer project he has been shaping since he arrived.
