A well-known former television presenter was interviewed under caution by Metropolitan Police detectives last month over historic sexual assault allegations, with officers continuing to examine claims said to date back about two decades.
The questioning has put a household name back under scrutiny for a report that was already drawing attention inside broadcast circles because of who was involved and how old the allegations are. The presenter, who fronted a popular programme and appeared on the broadcaster's shows, attended the interview at an arranged time and location and has fully cooperated with the investigation.
The allegations centre on unwanted sexual touching said to have happened on the London set of his programme between September 2005 and December 2006, when he was employed by an independent production company making content for the. Police have said they are investigating a report of sexual assault against a woman in Stratford during that period, and officers interviewed a man under caution on Thursday, May 14.
The man denies the accusation. Sources say he completely and utterly refutes the allegation, and police have not made an arrest at this stage. That leaves the case at a delicate point: investigators are still examining the report, but the presenter has not been charged and there is no indication yet of what the inquiry will produce next.
GB News has contacted the over the reports. The detail now driving interest is not just that a familiar face has been drawn into a live police case, but that the interview under caution happened last month and the Metropolitan Police inquiry remains open, with no arrest and no charge announced.
