A Reddit post has pushed a long-running Resident Evil rumor back into the spotlight: a new remake may be announced at Summer Game Fest on 5 June, and the game being whispered about is Resident Evil Code Veronica. The post from Ok_Rent_3748 quoted ScreenFire Germany as saying there was a 99% chance the remake would be revealed tomorrow.
That kind of number is enough to send fans hunting for clues, especially when the series has spent years revisiting its older entries. Ok_Rent_3748 also said ScreenFire Germany had provided reliable information on Resident Evil Requiem before it launched in February this year, which is part of why the post caught on so quickly. Requiem is already out on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
For fans, the appeal is obvious. Resident Evil Code Veronica has sat in the gap between the Resident Evil 3 remake in 2020 and Resident Evil 4 in 2023, a spot that has made it feel overdue whenever remake talk starts up again. Other rumors have floated the original Resident Evil getting a second remake, along with Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 5, but Code Veronica has become the name many players keep circling back to first.
There is still a catch, and it is the one that keeps this from becoming a done deal before the stage lights come up. A leaker can believe a reveal is near, a Reddit post can repeat a 99% claim, and fans can build a whole show around it, but Capcom could still unveil something else entirely or nothing at all. Even the most confident rumor only lasts until Summer Game Fest does or does not deliver.
For now, the story is simple: a possible Resident Evil Code Veronica remake is the rumor driving the conversation into 5 June, and Summer Game Fest is the only place where it can be confirmed or wiped away in a single announcement.
