Bayern Munich are exploring a surprise move for Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, with the 17-year-old emerging as their main left-sided target as they weigh several options to strengthen their attack. Liverpool, though, say he is not for sale and have not heard from the German club.
The interest has surfaced at a time when Ngumoha is getting an unusual level of senior exposure for a player his age. He is training with England’s senior squad in Florida ahead of the World Cup, even though he will not be in the tournament group, and Bayern are aware of how strongly he is rated.
That profile is what makes him so attractive now. Ngumoha signed his first professional deal in September, tying him to Liverpool until June 2028, and he has already made 29 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, scoring two goals and setting up another. For a teenager, that is enough to put him firmly on the radar of a club that is still looking for a left-sided spark.
Liverpool’s position is the blunt part of the story. They do not intend to weaken their wide areas, and they have made clear that their plan is to add options on the left rather than lose one of the most promising players in the squad. James Pearce summed up the mood around Anfield by saying the idea of Liverpool even considering a sale this summer would be ludicrous.
That stance matters because Liverpool are already planning for the next window with wide forwards as a priority. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is among the names under study, while other possibilities are being assessed too. The club’s thinking also explains why they did not move for a direct replacement when Luis Diaz joined Bayern last summer and why Ngumoha’s breakthrough changed the equation on Merseyside.
Bayern’s own search shows why this has become more than idle interest. They have been looking at multiple attacking candidates, with Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry both now in their 30s and Gnabry having only one year left on his contract. Luis Diaz, who turned up in Munich after leaving Liverpool, enjoyed a strong first season, while Michael Olise has progressed quickly under Vincent Kompany. Bayern had also tracked Anthony Gordon this summer and had previous interest in Koln’s Said El Mala, who recently turned down Brentford.
For now, the key detail is what has not happened. Bayern have not contacted Liverpool, and without that step the move remains exploratory rather than concrete. If the Germans decide to test Liverpool’s resolve, the response is already clear: the player is tied down, highly valued and not available.
