Valve said the delayed Steam Machine PC is set to launch sometime this summer, narrowing the release window for the device that has been on the market watchlist since late last year. The company made the update on Thursday in a blog post focused on its Verified programs for the new hardware.
That is the clearest timing signal yet for anyone searching for the valve steam machine release date, and it also applies to the Steam Frame VR headset, which Valve said is scheduled for the same summer window. The update matters because the company has been shifting its plan for months, and developers now have a firmer target for preparing games and software for the new machines.
Valve first announced the Steam Machine, Steam Frame and a new Steam Controller late last year, and originally said it would start shipping the gadgets in early 2026. Then, in February, the company said a memory and storage crunch had forced it to revisit pricing and shipping plans. By March, it was saying it would be shipping all three products this year, after first writing in a blog post that it hoped to ship in 2026 and then removing that wording in an update.
The Steam Controller has already gone out on its own in early May, but the Steam Machine and Steam Frame were still hanging in the balance. Valve used Thursday’s post to pair the summer launch window with details meant to help the software side catch up, saying it is redesigning the Steam store and sharing information about the Verified programs before the devices arrive.
There is still one obvious gap. Valve has not given an exact release date, and it has not said how much the Steam Machine will cost. The company did say the device is roughly six times as powerful as the Steam Deck, and that it is testing every title on Machine that fell below its performance requirements on Deck. It also said the Steam Frame Standalone Verified program is aimed at the experience customers will have with the headset out of the box in standalone mode.
For now, the summer window is the closest thing Valve has offered to a launch date. For players and developers waiting on the company’s next hardware push, that is enough to start planning — but not enough to know when the boxes will actually ship.
