Police in Las Vegas are investigating a fatal shooting that broke out after an argument at a park on the city’s east side Thursday morning. A man in his 20s was shot and later died after officers found him on the ground near Lana Drive.
The shooting was reported just before 9 a.m. at a park in the 4900 block of Lana Drive, near Nellis Boulevard and Boulder Highway. Investigators said three or four people were near a bench when the argument escalated and one person pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
Officers arrived to find the man lying on the ground and took him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police believe the suspect is also a man in his 20s, but the group had already fled before officers arrived, leaving the shooter unidentified in the report.
The scene drew a large police presence and prompted residents to avoid the area as investigators worked through the morning. The case remains active, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
The shooting adds another violent episode to the city’s recent crime docket, following other high-profile cases that have already pushed investigators into public view. For the victim’s family and for people living near Lana Drive, the unresolved question is not whether a shot was fired — it is who fired it, and what started the argument that ended with a man dead.
