Casey Schmitt kept driving the ball Tuesday, going 2-for-5 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI in the Giants' 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.
The performance fit a run of production that has made Schmitt one of the few consistent threats in San Francisco's lineup. He has driven in runs in five of his last six games, and through 47 games he has 12 homers, 31 RBI, 26 runs scored, a.906 OPS and three stolen bases.
That kind of stretch matters because the Giants needed every bit of offense they got. Schmitt supplied two of the five runs, but the rest of the lineup could not keep pace with Arizona, and another strong night at the plate still ended in defeat.
The bigger question now is whether Schmitt's bat can keep carrying that load long enough to help the Giants turn games like this into wins. For now, he has given them a steady source of power and run production, even if the standings have not yet caught up.
