, an 85-year-old worker in Maryville, Tennessee, has been handed $146,317 from strangers after a video of her on the job spread far beyond the theater. The money came from a fundraiser launched after filmed Eron hauling a heavy black garbage bag and pushing a cleaning cart during her shift.

The video was viewed more than 13 million times, turning an ordinary workday into a public appeal to help her retire. Green posted that she wanted to “secretly help retire this beautiful woman,” then started the fundraiser last weekend after seeing how hard Eron was working.

By Wednesday, Green had shown Eron the total on the crowdfunding page. The target had been set at $200,000, but the donations reached $146,317 before they were paused, with more than 7,500 people contributing. Green said she did not know Eron’s name when she first went to the theater, but was moved by how hard she worked and by how uncomfortable she appeared while doing it.

Eron had worked as a movie theater staffer for 45 years, long enough to become part of the routine at the Maryville theater, even as she kept working at an age when most people have already left the job market. Her own response was simple. “Oh my goodness. That’s a lot of money,” she said when she saw the total, then thanked the people who had given to the fundraiser.

The money changed the story, but it did not settle the question of what comes next. Eron helps the homeless and her local church, and the theater manager said the timing of her retirement will be her decision. For now, a woman who kept showing up for 45 years has enough support from complete strangers to choose her own exit.
