FromSoftware has set a release date for Elden Ring Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2, ending months of uncertainty around the handheld version of its fantasy hit. The game is due on August 28, 2026, and the package will cost $79.99.
The launch matters now because the Switch 2 edition had been planned for 2025 before being pushed back to allow time for performance adjustments. For players who have been waiting on a portable version of the 2022 Game of the Year-winning role-playing game, the new date finally gives the project a fixed target.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is not just the base game arriving on a new console. It bundles the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, adds new weapons, lets players customize Torrent with armor skins and includes two new starting classes. Bandai Namco said the same content will also be sold on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC through Steam as the Tarnished Pack DLC on the same day.
That separate release leaves one piece of the business still unfinished: Bandai Namco has not said how much the Tarnished Pack DLC will cost on those other platforms. The pricing gap matters because the Switch 2 version is being sold as a full edition at $79.99, while owners of older consoles and PC will have to decide whether the extra content is worth buying on top of the base game they already own.
The delay also hangs over the announcement. Pre-launch hands-on impressions had already raised technical concerns about the Switch 2 build, with one early look calling it a disaster in handheld mode and saying frame rate drops were significant when turning the camera outside the tutorial area. Setting a date does not erase that history, but it does show FromSoftware is prepared to ship the game after giving itself more time to adjust performance.
For now, the key answer is simple: Elden Ring Tarnished Edition lands on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026, and the extra content arrives elsewhere the same day. What Bandai Namco has not yet answered is the price players on those other platforms will have to pay for the Tarnished Pack.
