Marathon Game Season 2 begins on June 2, bringing a full reset for every player and opening a new stretch of content that will reshape how the shooter plays from the first day of the season. runs from June 2 to 9, giving PlayStation 5 users a chance to try the full game without a PlayStation Plus membership, and any progress they make during that window will carry into the season.

That timing is why the game is suddenly back on the radar for players who stepped away after launch or were waiting for a cleaner entry point. The free week lands exactly as the new season arrives, so the people who log in now are not just sampling the game — they are starting alongside everyone else, with their early progress preserved when the season opens in full.

The biggest change is Night Marsh, a new zone built around pitch darkness in several areas and fewer exterior wayfinding lights. That should make movement less predictable and push players to rely on what they can carry, including the new attached lights added to Runner shells. Season 2 also adds Darksight scopes and signal flares as loot options, giving players more ways to navigate and read the field when visibility drops.

Combat is changing in a more direct way too. A new defensive shell called Sentinel joins the roster, designed to control space and shape encounters before they begin. The update also introduces the Cradle system for Runner shell progression, letting players level up the WEAVEworms that create their cybernetic body with WEAVEworm Energy. That Energy can be reset and refunded at any point during the season, which gives players room to rebuild their loadouts without getting locked into one path.

The season starts from a clean slate for everyone, and that reset matters as much as any weapon or map change. Every Runner goes back to the same gear footing, which keeps the early season from being dominated by whoever had the strongest inventory before the update. Two new weapons, the KKV and the D54 Battle Pistol, also join the mix as the launch day pool expands.

There is, however, one detail that sits outside the neat seasonal pitch. The has increased its presence to fortify the Complex building for reasons unknown, and the game does not say what they are protecting inside it. For now, that leaves Season 2 with a clear answer on when and how players can jump in, and one unresolved question hanging over the new content: what is inside the Complex that needs that much security.

Open Play Week continues through June 9, and Season 2 will be the first real test of whether the reset, the darker terrain and the new progression system give Marathon Game the fresh start it is trying to sell.
