The released on Monday, ending a brief run that lasted just 27 games in the organization.

The move closes the book on a short Brewers stint for the 26-year-old outfielder, who had already spent time on the 7-day injured list and the development list earlier this season. Adams signed a minor-league deal in February, but the organization moved on after a stop-and-start stretch that never turned into a steady opportunity.

That was the latest turn for a player once viewed as an intriguing reclamation project. Adams had produced only a.198/.298/.363 line this season, with 34 strikeouts in 105 plate appearances, even as his year was split between Double-A and Triple-A. He had appeared in 38 major league games for the Angels and over the last two years, so the Brewers were betting that a fresh system could help unlock more of the tools that once made him a top prospect.

The argument for patience was there on paper. In 2023, Adams hit 15 home runs and stole 44 bases for Triple-A Salt Lake, a reminder of the speed-power blend that kept him on prospect lists. He also turned in one of the more memorable defensive plays of the season as a member of the Sounds, making a juggling home-run robbery just inside the foul pole before firing the ball back in to turn it into a game-ending double play when he caught a runner straying off first base.

But the Brewers had struggled to get the outfield rotation right, and Adams was one of several players cycling through a depth chart that never settled. At the time of his release, the club’s Triple-A outfield included , , , and Luis Matos, a group that leaves Milwaukee with other options to sort through even as it loses a former first-round pick who had not found enough traction to stick.

What Adams does next is the open question. For now, the Brewers have made their decision, and the search for his next stop starts after a release that came fast enough to show how quickly the organization had decided his brief audition was over.
