Love Island is back on Monday 1 June at 9pm, and one of the first new faces viewers will meet is Lola Deal, a 28-year-old detective from Kent who says she is heading into the villa to leave with a boyfriend.
That makes Deal an immediate name to watch as the new season starts on ITV2 and ITVX. Her arrival gives the opening night a clear dating story: a woman in her late 20s, with a job that suggests she reads people for a living, now stepping into a show built around reading them for love.
Deal has made no secret of what she wants. She said she is looking for someone who is “the love of my life,” and added that she wants to find someone who is “obsessed with me.” She has also said she is missing that kind of attention, which is about as direct a Love Island brief as it gets.
Her list of traits is just as specific. Deal says her type is usually “tall, dark and handsome,” even if she has ended up with blondes in the past. She likes someone “quite big,” meaning a good cuddler with muscles, but she also wants a partner who is funny and smart enough to teach her things. In her words, she wants someone who does things for her, but not so much that she “can’t take the piss.”
There is, though, one line that keeps her from sounding like a contestant arriving with her mind made up. Deal says that if people are actually together, she will back off. That matters because Love Island often turns on contestants pushing the rules just far enough to make a scene, and she is already drawing a boundary that could shape how she behaves once the coupling starts.
She is also coming in as one of the older Islanders in this year’s line-up, which could make her easier for viewers to track when the flirting starts and the loyalties shift. Her Instagram account, @loladealx, had a little over 5,000 followers at the time of reporting, a sign that she is still arriving on the show with room to become known rather than walking in already overexposed.
For now, the only confirmed next step is the season launch itself. Once Love Island begins on Monday night, the real test for Deal will be whether the detective from Kent can turn her very specific wish list into an actual couple before the villa moves on without her.
