Snow returned to the Carpathians at the end of spring, and Chornogora fell to -1°C as Vasyl Fitsak posted a video showing the mountains in snow. The mountain rescuer with the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast said everything was stable there, but the thermometer had already dropped below freezing.
Fitsak shared the report on Facebook, giving a fresh picture of how abruptly the weather changed in the highlands. For readers tracking snowfall now, the timing matters: Ukraine was heading into a cool stretch over the weekend, with daytime temperatures in some areas forecast not to exceed +10°C.
In Chornogora, the sight of snow at the turn of the season stands out because warmer weather was still expected to return later. That contrast is what makes the report sharp enough to travel: spring was ending with freezing temperatures in one of the country’s best-known mountain areas, even as the broader forecast pointed to a rebound in the days ahead.
The last days of May were also expected to stay quite cool, with rain possible in some places, before the first month of summer turned mostly warm again. June 2026 was preliminarily forecast to bring sunny days, rising temperatures and occasional thunderstorms, most active in the middle of the month, though conditions would still vary by region.
For now, the mountain snapshot is the clearest one: snow in Chornogora, -1°C on the thermometer and no sign that the Carpathians were done with cold yet.
