A newly released camera angle from Roland Garros appears to clear Rafa Jodar after a viral clip showed what looked like him pushing a ball girl out of his way. The sharper view suggests he never touched her as he moved toward his player box.
That matters because the original footage spread fast and drew a wave of criticism from tennis fans who accused Jodar of poor sportsmanship and disrespect. In the aftermath, the 17-year-old denied making contact and said, “I didn’t touch her,” while explaining that he was gesturing toward his father in the stands.
The incident happened shortly after his match at the French Open, when the first video made the sequence look abrupt and ugly. The alternate angle, however, shows a different picture: the ball girl appears to lose her footing while backing away and trips over the edge of the court tarp near the sideline, with the movement unfolding almost at the same moment as Jodar’s gesture toward the stands.
That is why the new footage changed the conversation so quickly online. The earlier clip had already done the damage, and the fresh angle suggested that many of the conclusions drawn from incomplete footage were premature. In a sport where a few seconds can become a verdict on social media, the difference between a shove and a stumble is everything.
What remains unresolved is whether Roland Garros or the ball girl will address the new video directly. For now, the clearer angle appears to have done what Jodar’s post-match denial could not: it has shifted the public reading of the incident from misconduct to a misread moment caught on a bad angle.
