said Friday that his older brother likely died by suicide after witnesses reportedly saw him in or near a river, but he stressed he could not confirm the report was fully true. He said investigators had been scouring the scene and still had not found a body.

That is the reason the matt brown search spiked on Friday. Bear Brown, speaking in a TikTok video, said he was being told late last night that Matt took his own life and that the person seen at the river was 99 percent likely to be his brother.

He tied the claim to what he described as witness accounts, saying people saw Matt in a river, at a river or close to one, and that he was seen floating down the river. Bear Brown also said the family had already been dealing with his brother’s long struggle with alcohol and drugs, along with the distance Matt had put between himself and the rest of the family.

Before he left for Florida, Bear said he ran into Matt in Walmart and spoke with him for a few minutes. After that, Matt called and said he had fallen off the wagon. Bear said he urged him to get back on it and go to rehab if he needed to, and said that brief call was the last time they spoke.

He also said Matt had been going through a really bad breakup with a girl he really liked, but added that he never thought his brother was suicidal. In a follow-up TikTok on Friday, Bear said recent social media posts in Matt’s name were not authentic, and he asked fans to be respectful of the family and of in particular. He described some of the reaction online as negative and nasty.

The uncertainty remains the center of the story. Bear Brown said the report was still unconfirmed and investigators had not found a body, leaving the family with a public allegation but no official conclusion. For now, that is the gap that matters most: whether the river search leads to Matt Brown, or whether the account Bear was given changes as investigators keep working the scene.
