Virgin Media has added 8 Out of 10 Cats and Pointless to Virgin TV set-top boxes, giving customers two more channels to stream at no extra cost. The new arrivals are available now and can be found on the Electronic Programme Guide.
The move matters because it puts two familiar comedy and quiz favourites in front of Virgin TV viewers today, without an added bill. David Bouchier said Virgin Media is launching two brand new streaming channels to give customers more of the best entertainment from Virgin TV at zero extra cost, and said comedy and quiz show lovers can now get their favourite content on demand and 24/7.
The two channels join 37 existing streaming channels on Virgin TV, including U&Transport, British Screen Classics and Inside Crime. That makes the platform’s streaming line-up larger and easier to browse for people who want something light, familiar and available whenever they turn on the box.
There is one detail that sits behind the phrase “free to watch”: the channels are ad-supported FAST services. FAST stands for Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television, which means viewers do not pay extra to access them, but they do watch advertising while they watch the programmes. Virgin Media’s streaming channel offering has been steadily evolving, and this addition extends that pattern without changing the basic cost for customers.
Earlier this year, Virgin Media rolled out a trio of other new channels, and the latest addition pushes the service further into the FAST space. What it has not said is whether more channels are coming next, or when another expansion might follow. For now, Virgin TV customers have two fresh options waiting on the guide, and they cost nothing beyond the service they already have.
