Everton have reached out to Kieran Trippier’s representatives in an effort to sign the 35-year-old as a free agent when his Newcastle United contract expires this summer. David Moyes has made a right-back a priority, and Trippier is now one of the names being considered as Everton look to reshape the right side of their defence.
The move comes with Everton expected to be busy in the market and already linked with full backs as they try to add more quality in a position that affects both their defensive shape and their attacking play. Jake O’Brien is currently filling in at right-back, but he does not offer the full skill set needed for a modern full-back, while Seamus Coleman has ended his playing days at the club and Nathan Patterson is increasingly likely to leave. Moyes’ search for a dependable option has put Trippier firmly in view.
Trippier’s appeal is clear. He has played Premier League football for three clubs and was a key figure in Newcastle’s resurgence after the 2021 takeover, bringing experience and authority to Eddie Howe’s side. In his first full season in the North East, he played in every league match, but his Premier League appearances have fallen in each of the campaigns since. That decline does not erase what he offered at his peak, but it does explain why Newcastle are prepared to let the deal run out and why Everton see a chance to move early.
For Everton, the timing matters. Moyes wants the right side of the team improved before the summer window settles, and a free transfer of a proven Premier League defender would fit the brief if the club can agree terms. For Trippier, the choice is whether to stay in the top flight with another side or to follow a Newcastle exit that closes the first chapter of the club’s post-takeover rebuild, as outlined in the club’s own recent transformation. His next move now sits at the center of Everton’s planning, and the club has made its interest known before others can fully enter the race.
