The has been cancelled for 2026 after organisers said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East left too much uncertainty over access to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. The world's biggest military air show had been due to run from 17 to 19 July.

, who would have been taking on his first Air Tattoo as chief executive next year, called it a "really big and difficult decision" and said the cancellation was "not an easy decision" for organisers. Ticket holders can ask for a refund, roll their tickets over to next year or donate the cost to the , the charity that receives all profits from the not-for-profit event.

The cancellation lands hard because RIAT is not a small local fixture but a show that has been running for more than 50 years and can draw more than 170,000 people to RAF Fairford. Organisers said the decision came after discussions with the , which focused on whether access to the base could be guaranteed while the situation in Iran remained unsettled.

That uncertainty has made a one-off cancellation feel like something larger than a diary problem. The Air Tattoo has long depended on international military participation and access to the Gloucestershire base, and organisers were left balancing that reality against the risk of planning a major summer event that might not be able to go ahead.

Gager said the show will return in 2027, even as he acknowledged the blow to regular visitors who treat it as part of the summer calendar. "It's just a phenomenal disappointment that I share with everybody that comes to RIAT because it's that annual legacy of going there and making memories," he said. "The summer won't be the same without it."

The next few days now centre on a practical question rather than a ceremonial one: how many attendees choose refunds, how many carry tickets forward, and how quickly organisers can reassure supporters that the Air Tattoo will be back on the runway in 2027.
