Acapulco opened the XXIII Congreso Nacional de la Asociación Mexicana de Mujeres Empresarias 2026 on Wednesday, bringing more than 500 women from different states in Mexico to Expo Mundo Imperial for a meeting that officials say will help push the city’s recovery and tourism development. The congress is expected to generate 1,000 room nights and more than 15 million pesos in economic spillover.

Simón Quiñones Orozco said the gathering would project Acapulco’s recovery and its tourism development, underscoring the role women play across the industry. He noted that women represent 54.2% of the country’s tourism workforce, working in hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, transportation, event organization and tourism promotion, among other areas that keep the sector moving.

The event arrives at a time when Acapulco is leaning on business meetings and conventions to bring visitors back into the city’s economy. The congress is not only a networking space for women entrepreneurs from across Mexico, but also part of a broader effort to show that the destination can host large-scale events and still draw spending beyond the conference halls.

Ivett Bonifaz Famania said the meeting would also boost the destination’s economy and create jobs for families working at the venue and in nearby tourism businesses, including hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. Liliana Palomares Bataz said attendees were also set to visit the Bahía histórica, the Zona Dorada, La Quebrada, Sinfonía, the Museo Histórico de Acapulco, Fuerte de San Diego and beach areas, extending the congress’s reach beyond the convention center.

That mix of commerce and sightseeing is what gives the congress its value for Acapulco today. The figures are important, but so is the message behind them: the city is trying to turn a women-led business gathering into proof that its tourism base can still generate spending, jobs and movement across the destination.
