Former Deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, saying his political future and the interests of Delta Central are now better served outside the party.
In a letter dated May 22, 2026 and addressed to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege said the resignation takes immediate effect. He asked that his name be removed from all party membership records, registers and communication lists.
The move ends his formal tie with the APC after a period in which he said recent developments in the party in Delta State had made it impossible for him to keep advancing the interests of his people from within. Omo-Agege said he reached the decision after consulting his political associates and supporters, and added that he could no longer remain in a party where he was unable to effectively promote the concerns of Delta Central.
“After reviewing recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear that my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the party,” he said in the statement. He added that he would not remain a “sitting duck” in a party where he could not advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.
Omo-Agege thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, a role that made him one of the party’s most visible figures from Delta State. His resignation is likely to reshape the local political calculation around Delta Central, where his influence has long carried weight inside the party structure.
What comes next is whether he will build a new political base with the same reach he once had in the APC. He said he will continue to pursue development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria outside the party, and that makes the next phase of his politics the real test of this break.
