The A9 was closed in both directions near Dunkeld on Wednesday morning after a vehicle fire brought traffic to a halt on one of Perth and Kinross’s main routes. Traffic Scotland said the closure was in place at Inchmagrannachan, between Dalmarnock and Dunkeld, and urged motorists to avoid the area.
The incident was reported just after 6.30am at Inchmagrannachan, and Traffic Scotland posted its update at 06:37 on May 27, 2026. It said emergency services were on route and told drivers to use an alternative route while the road remained shut. No injuries had been reported.
Police Scotland later said the northbound and southbound carriageways south of Dunkeld were closed because of a lorry fire, with diversions in place. The warning mattered immediately because the A9 is a major route through Perth and Kinross, and any closure on it can quickly ripple through morning traffic.
What the notices did not say was how long the road would stay shut or what caused the fire. For drivers heading through the area, the key fact was simpler: the route was blocked, the alternative roads were already carrying the load, and delays were likely to continue until the scene was cleared.
