MILWAUKEE — Garrett Mitchell singled in the second inning, and the Brewers briefly had the Dodgers where they wanted them. Milwaukee opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame, but Los Angeles answered with five unanswered runs and rolled to a 5-1 win on Sunday.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave the Dodgers the kind of start that had eluded him in Milwaukee before. He pitched seven innings, allowed seven hits and struck out three while inducing a career-high 11 ground ball outs, helping Los Angeles leave town with its first series win there since July 2024.
The Brewers' early run started when Jake Bauers was hit by a pitch from Yamamoto and Sal Frelick brought him home on a fielder's choice. Brandon Sproat, the rookie on the mound for Milwaukee, kept the Dodgers quiet through three innings with five strikeouts, but Los Angeles broke through in the fourth on a wild pitch to make it 1-1.
The game turned in the fifth. Kyle Tucker lined a two-run triple for his 45th RBI of the season, then Andy Pages followed on the next pitch with a two-run home run. That finished the scoring and gave the Dodgers a cushion they never threatened to lose.
The win also extended a bigger trend for Los Angeles. The bullpen carried a franchise-record scoreless streak to 38 innings, and the victory capped the Dodgers' first winning road trip since their first trip away from home this season. Yamamoto's outing was also the first time all year he earned a win while working at least seven innings, a sharp contrast to his last regular-season start in Milwaukee, when he was knocked out of the first inning without recording an out and gave up six runs.
The Dodgers finished their nine-game road trip at 7-2 and were set to open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday at 6:10 p.m. PT, with Emmet Sheehan scheduled to start opposite Tanner Gordon. For Milwaukee, Mitchell's single was one of the few early positive signs in a game that slipped away once the Dodgers found their timing.
