John Legend and Chrissy Teigen made a stylish entrance at the American Music Awards on May 25, but the red carpet moment briefly turned awkward when Teigen's gown caught on her shoe. Legend bent down to help untangle the dress as photographers and onlookers watched, and the couple laughed it off before moving on.
Teigen wore a beaded, strapless orange gown from Raisa Vanessa, while Legend chose a khaki Dries Van Noten suit. As she shuffled toward him, the floor-length dress dragged on the carpet and snagged on her heel, a small mishap the pair fixed with assistance before heading inside the show.
The sight of the two working through the snag fit the image they have long cultivated as one of pop culture's most familiar couples. Legend and Teigen met in 2006 while filming his video for Stereo, married in 2013 and, according to his comments on the IRL podcast in 2025, have spent 20 years together. Legend said couples have to be fortunate enough to fall in love and marry someone they are supposed to be with, adding that the key is to choose well. He said he felt they had chosen well, describing their chemistry as more than physical and saying they respect, love and support each other.
That red carpet detour did not keep Legend from his duties later that night. He went on to present the International Artist Award of Excellence to Colombian singer Karol G, putting the couple back in the center of one of the music industry's biggest awards shows. The moment was small, but it reflected why the pair still draw attention nearly 13 years after their wedding: they show up together, handle the mishaps in public and keep moving.
For Teigen and Legend, the snag was not the story. The story was how quickly they turned it into one more ordinary, amused moment in a relationship that has lasted through years of public scrutiny and a shared life that now includes their two oldest children.
