Charles Barkley had one question for OG Anunoby after the New York Knicks rolled past the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday: what is your real name?
Barkley asked Anunoby, "OG, can I ask you a question? What is your real name?" The Hall of Famer then joked that the Knicks forward was not even saying his own name correctly, turning a postgame interview into a brief comedy bit after New York's 121-108 victory in Cleveland.
It was a strong night for Anunoby as well as a light one for Barkley. He scored 21 points, went 3-for-4 from three-point range and grabbed seven rebounds in 31 minutes, helping the Knicks seize a 3-0 lead in the series. The win put New York on the brink of a second consecutive postseason sweep, with Game 4 set for 8 p.m. ET Monday night in Cleveland.
The timing mattered because the Knicks were already one win away from finishing the Cavaliers and moving closer to a place they have not reached in decades. If New York closes out the series, it will reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.
That is what gave a playful exchange extra weight. Barkley’s joke landed because Anunoby had just helped deliver a lopsided playoff win on the road, and because the Knicks now have a clear chance to turn Saturday’s performance into something much bigger two nights later.
There is still the gap between a 3-0 lead and a finished series, and Cleveland gets one more shot to stop the sweep. But the Knicks have done enough to shift the pressure fully onto Game 4, where one more win would send them to the brink of history.
For Anunoby, the night ended with a stat line that matched the moment. For Barkley, it ended with a line that will travel just as well: a simple question, delivered with a grin, after a team that suddenly looks very hard to stop.
