Birmingham City are still holding talks with Girona over midfielder Jhon Solis, with the Championship club pushing to make his move permanent after a season in which he became one of Chris Davies’ preferred choices in midfield.
Girona are holding firm on an €8m price tag, while Solis has made clear he wants his future settled before July. Birmingham brought him in on loan in the winter transfer window with an option to buy, and the player has done enough to turn that clause from a formality into a live negotiation.
Solis missed just three Championship matches after joining in January, a run that underlined how quickly he settled into Davies’ side. He also scored his first goal for Birmingham in the penultimate game against Bristol City, a moment that came as the club tried to end the season with a push for the playoffs.
That target was not achieved, and the failure to reach the top six has sharpened planning for another Championship campaign. Birmingham had wanted to sign Solis before bringing him to St Andrews in January, and his impact has only strengthened the case to keep him.
The tension in the deal is clear. Birmingham want to avoid losing a player who has become an important part of the side, but Girona are not shifting from their valuation, leaving both clubs to continue negotiating over whether the loan becomes a permanent transfer.
For now, Solis remains at the centre of Birmingham’s summer planning, and the next move in the talks will decide whether one of Davies’ most trusted midfield options stays in the West Midlands or returns to Spain.
