Blades Brown shot a third-round 6-under 65 on Saturday at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson and moved into a share of 13th place at 14 under, keeping his bid for Special Temporary Membership alive.
The 19-year-old started the week needing a solo 21st-place finish or better in his 16th career start and seventh of the season. He opened with rounds of 66 and 68 before adding another low number in the third round, continuing a stretch that has already included a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open this year.
Brown said he was not tracking the math closely and was focused instead on the shots in front of him. “Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I don't know exactly where I stand with all of that,” he said. “I was just focused on the execution of my golf shots.”
That approach has carried him from a fast rise in amateur golf to the professional game. Brown turned professional at 17 after becoming the youngest stroke-play medalist in the history of the U.S. Amateur Championship in 2023, when he tied two other players at the top of the field at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver. He also earned medalist honors at the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, though he was later eliminated in the Round of 32.
The latest push matters because Brown is trying to turn a strong run into the kind of consistency that can keep him in full tournament company. He made his TOUR debut the season before as a 16-year-old amateur on a sponsor exemption, missed the cut at The American Express in 2025 and then qualified for THE CJ CUP two weeks ago at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, where he tied for ninth place.
For Brown, Saturday’s 65 did more than trim a scorecard. It gave him another day inside the number he needs, and another chance to turn a promising year into something more lasting.
