He added that the week had carried one clear focus: reaching 45 points, and said Parma would pursue 12th place with all its will. The coach also said he hopes to end the season with a win in front of the home fans.
That target comes after three straight defeats, a run that has taken some shine off a campaign Parma has already secured in safety. Cuesta said the final match matters because it is the club’s last league game of the season, and because he wants the group to close out a year that brought both positives and low points on a better note.
The squad available to him is badly reduced. Cuesta said Parma will be without Rinaldi, Cremaschi, Delprato, Strefezza, Estevez, Elphege, Bernabé, Ondrejka and Oristanio, forcing him to lean on six Primavera call-ups: Mazzocchi, Mena, Plicco, Tigani, Mikolajewski and Cardinali. The coach said Cardinali had been close to making his debut on Sunday, but Elphege’s injury prevented it.
That leaves Parma with a final test that is less about survival than about finishing with a statement. Cuesta made clear that any talk about the future can wait until after Sassuolo, but the immediate challenge is plain enough: protect a young, patched-up side, compete for the points still on offer and give the home crowd something to take from the season’s last whistle.
