Katie Price’s husband, Lee Andrews, is under arrest in Dubai and will call his father later today, Peter Andrews said, after Price raised the alarm publicly over his whereabouts and feared he may have been kidnapped.
Peter Andrews said his son had not been abducted. “Lee is OK. He has not been kidnapped, but he is under arrest. I don't know on what charge,” he said. He added: “I'm not sure where he is being held. But he will call me later today.”
The development answers one part of the mystery that has surrounded Andrews for days, but it leaves the central questions unresolved. Peter Andrews said he did not know what charge his son is being held on, and he was unable to say where in Dubai he is being kept. That uncertainty matters because Katie Price had already said she had not heard from her husband of four months in 11 days and that she feared something serious had happened.
Price first went public on 16 May in a YouTube video, saying she had not heard from Andrews after he was due to fly from Dubai to the UK for a Good Morning Britain appearance. She said Andrews had told her he had been detained, that the Criminal Investigation Department in Dubai was looking for him, and that no one could find any record of him in any prison or police station.
“I don’t really know where to begin but I know there’s all this speculation about Lee from when I met him,” Price said in the video. She added: “Something really, really serious has happened.”
The couple married in January, just days after meeting for the first time, and much of their relationship has been long-distance because Andrews is Dubai-based. The timeline has drawn attention in part because the University of Cambridge disputed Andrews’ claims that he earned a PhD from the institution, adding another layer to the scrutiny around the relationship.
For now, the key fact is that Andrews is being held by authorities in Dubai, his father says he is not missing, and his family still does not know why he is in custody. The next answer that matters is the charge itself, because that is what will determine whether this is a private family crisis, a legal case, or both.
