Katie Price said her husband, Dubai-based businessman Lee Andrews, had been missing for three days on Saturday 16 May and told followers that something really, really serious had happened. Price said the last time she heard from Andrews was Wednesday night at 10pm, when he was trying to get through border control in Dubai to catch a flight to see her.
Price, 47, said in a YouTube video that she feared for his safety and believed the situation had become a criminal matter. “We are wondering if he’s been kidnapped; he’s definitely a missing person now,” she said, adding that the Criminal Investigation Department in Dubai was looking for him.
She said no one could find any record of Andrews being detained in the country and that he could not be located in any prison or police station. “No one can find anywhere in the country that Lee has been detained,” she said. “No one can find him in any prison, any police station; the police can’t find any record of him.”
The disappearance adds another twist to a marriage that began in January, when Price and Andrews wed just days after meeting for the first time. They had been navigating a long-distance relationship because Andrews is based in Dubai, and Price said he had been due to travel to the UK for an appearance on Good Morning Britain.
The couple’s rush into marriage had already drawn attention, but Andrews’s background also came under scrutiny after the University of Cambridge disputed his claim that he had earned a PhD there. Now the immediate question is not his résumé but where he is, and whether Dubai authorities can account for him after Price said she had heard nothing from him for three days.
For Price, the uncertainty is the point. She said she still had no explanation for why Andrews vanished as he tried to leave Dubai, and she described him not as absent, but as someone no one could find.
