Montana Jordan says fans should not expect Sheldon Cooper back in Season 2 of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, and he says the absence fits where the story is right now. Iain Armitage did not return as Sheldon, and Jordan said that made sense to him.
“At this moment, it makes sense that Sheldon hasn't returned,” Jordan said ahead of the Season 2 finale. He added that “it doesn't make sense in the storyline, and if it did make sense in the storyline, they would have already brought him back.”
Jordan framed the decision as one for the show’s creators, not for the cast. “So whenever that time is, I put my full trust in the creators, and whenever that time is they feel it's right, is when he'll come back,” he said.
The comments matter because Sheldon is one of the most recognizable figures from the franchise, and viewers have been waiting to see whether the younger version of the character would surface again as Georgie’s story moves forward. Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage has only alluded to Georgie and Sheldon talking over the phone sporadically, while Sheldon remains at university through most of this period.
Jordan, who spent years working with Armitage during Young Sheldon, also made clear there is no bad blood between them. “I love that boy. He's like a brother to me, and I wish him nothing but success. Anytime he wants to come on set, come on back,” he said.
The off-screen connection has held up even as the on-screen family tree shifted. After the birth of Jordan’s daughter, Armitage made the trip to see him, a small sign that the relationship behind the scenes stayed close after the original series ended.
Armitage has kept at least a little contact with the broader TV universe as well. He appeared on Ghosts, which airs right after Georgie & Mandy, keeping him within the same viewing lane even as Sheldon stayed away from the spinoff.
For now, the show is moving ahead without him. Georgie was left to look after both his mother and sister in addition to his own family, and the series has already made clear that the brotherly bond between Georgie and Sheldon did not simply disappear, even if it has gone quiet.
Season 2 of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage is streaming on Paramount+, where it is available for $8.99 a month or $89.99 a year, with another option at $13.99 a month. Season 3 is set to kick off in the fall television season on CBS, and if Sheldon returns, Jordan has made plain that he expects it to happen only when the story is ready for it.
