United World Wrestling published the entries for the Ulaanbaatar Open on May 21, setting the field for the June 4-7 event in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the third Ranking Series tournament of the year. The list is still provisional, but it already points to one of the event’s biggest story lines: Zholaman Sharshenbekov is slated to return to international competition for the first time since the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The sharpest matchups are spread across several weights. Christopher Composto is listed in the 65kg field for the United States, while Cross Wasilewski appears in the 70kg bracket. Mongolia’s Davaabandi Munkh Erdene is entered at 55kg, and the 60kg field includes Baoyinjiya of China and Akyl Sulaimanov of Kyrgyzstan. Sunny Kumar of India is listed at 63kg, and the 125kg division features Robert Baran of Poland and Jose Diaz of Venezuela.
United World Wrestling said entries remain subject to change until 72 hours before the draws for each style, leaving room for late adjustments before the competition begins. That caveat matters because the Ulaanbaatar Open sits on the Ranking Series calendar, where every lineup shift can affect who gets tested against whom and how the field settles before the draws.
The timing also gives the meet added weight. The continental championships are over, and the season now turns to ranking points and the run of events that shape the remainder of the international schedule. For Sharshenbekov, the return carries its own charge; for everyone else in the bracket, Ulaanbaatar offers a chance to measure form against a field that is still being finalized but already looks deep enough to matter.
