Jim Goodwin said he was not surprised by reports linking Rangers with a summer move for Amar Fatah after the winger’s standout season at Dundee United. The United manager said the 22-year-old Swedish youth international has been one of the most consistent players in his position and called him a pleasure to work with.
“I’m not surprised because I think Amar’s performances for Dundee United have been exceptional,” Goodwin said. “Whether Rangers are interested in Amar or not I don’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest because I think he’s been one of the best performers in his position on a consistent basis throughout the season.” He added that Fatah had “little moments — little lulls if you like — but they’ve never dragged on for too long” and said the forward could recover quickly after an off night.
Fatah spent the season on loan at Dundee United from French side Troyes and finished with nine goals and four assists in 34 total appearances. Goodwin said the player was “the best player on the pitch by a country mile” against Rangers at Ibrox last time out, a performance that underlined why interest in him has grown. Primarily a left winger, Fatah can also play across the forward line, giving any suitor a flexible attacking option.
The numbers back up the praise. In the Scottish Premiership, Fatah posted a crossing accuracy of 40.8 per cent, placing him in the top three percentile of all left wingers in the division. Before arriving in Scotland, he made 22 Eredivisie appearances and 23 total outings for Willem II in 2024-25, another sign of a player who has already gathered experience in different leagues at 22 years old.
His rise matters because he was largely an unknown quantity for Dundee United when he arrived last summer, and his loan form has reportedly pushed up his transfer value. Rangers are looking to strengthen their cutting edge in attack, while Troyes, who won the Ligue 2 title in 2025-26, are under no immediate pressure to let him go but could be tempted to sell while his stock is high. Fatah remains contracted to the French club until the summer of 2027, which means any move this summer will require a fee that reflects how quickly his reputation has changed.
For Dundee United, the move has already done what loans are meant to do. Fatah arrived with questions and leaves with a stronger market, a bigger profile and a manager who believes his best work may still be ahead of him.
