A Good Samaritan followed a tan Toyota minivan from the Lake Deaton Recreation Center to Hooters in The Villages on Monday afternoon after watching a domestic brawl break out inside it, then called 911 and handed a deputy video of the fight.
A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy stopped the van westbound on State Road 44 near Buena Vista Boulevard and found 23-year-old Michaella Rose Brown of Leesburg in the driver’s seat with her battered male passenger. The back of the minivan held several empty child car seats.
The video showed Brown leaning across the center console and punching the man multiple times while the van rocked back and forth, according to the arrest report. When the deputy asked about the footage, the man said the two were “just playing around.” Brown declined to speak with law enforcement.
Brown was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge and booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center because she was already on probation in Lake County for a prior burglary charge. Her probation runs through 2027.
The arrest report says Brown and the man denied they had just come from Hooters and told the deputy their children were safely at school, a claim that did not match the cell phone video that prompted the traffic stop. The case now leaves Brown facing a new criminal charge while she remains tied to an earlier one, and the probation status means she will stay in custody unless a court changes that order.
