Tracy Shaw has given a fresh update on her battle with breast cancer, saying her treatment plan now includes five consecutive months of intensive chemotherapy before surgery to remove malignant tumors and affected lymph nodes.
The 52-year-old, best known for playing Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street, said she was diagnosed in April and has already undergone localized radiation therapy. Shaw said the current phase of treatment means she must avoid contact with pregnant women and young children and stay away from public facilities, a set of restrictions that shows how tightly controlled her daily life has become.
Shaw, who appeared on Coronation Street from 1995 until her character’s exit in 2003, has used social media to speak directly to supporters since her diagnosis. In that update, she described herself as “taking time to reflect” and said there were moments when she felt she could not go through with it, a sign of how hard the treatment has been on her body and mind.
What matters now is that her fight is no longer at the stage of diagnosis and uncertainty. She is in the middle of a structured course of treatment, with chemotherapy ahead of surgery, and the restrictions she described suggest the next months will be defined less by public appearances than by recovery, isolation and the narrow demands of care.
