was back in the lineup on May 12, 2026, activated from the 10-day injured list after missing a month with a left groin strain. Milwaukee penciled him into the No. 3 spot against San Diego right-hander Matt Waldron, restoring the centerpiece of its order after a long stretch without him.

The move came with a small reshuffle on the roster. was optioned to to open an active roster spot for Yelich, whose injury had interrupted an excellent start to the season. Through his first 56 plate appearances before going down in the middle of April, Yelich was hitting.314/.375/.451 with one home run.

That production had been hard to replace. Milwaukee ranked eighth in the in scoring while Yelich was out, a sign the lineup kept moving even without one of its most reliable bats. The Brewers used Black and Gary Sánchez for most of the designated hitter reps during the absence, and they also got some relief from Joey Ortiz, who hit his first home run of the season on May 12.

Yelich’s return also underscored how crowded the Brewers’ mix has become at first base and designated hitter. Andrew Vaughn, Jake Bauers, William Contreras and Sánchez are all in the picture, leaving only so many at-bats to spread around. For Black, the roster move is part of a difficult stretch in his final minor league option year, with little margin for error in a bench battle that has tightened as Milwaukee has stayed in the race.

There is still more rehab traffic coming. said is scheduled to resume his rehab assignment on Saturday, after spending the season out with a nerve issue diagnosed during Spring Training. Priester had already started a rehab stint in late April, only to be pulled back after walking eight batters and hitting two more in five innings. is on a different timetable, but his return is also part of the Brewers’ near-term planning. He is aiming to get back to MLB action a couple weeks after Priester, following a deep laceration in his right knee when he slid into the side wall at American Family Field on Friday. Lockridge was carted off the field, but he avoided any fractures, a detail that kept the injury from becoming even more serious.

For Milwaukee, Tuesday was about getting Yelich back where he belonged. The Brewers did not just regain a left-handed bat; they regained the player around whom the top of the lineup is built, at a time when every healthy day matters.
