Seven people were rushed to hospitals Friday afternoon after a crash involving a cement truck and a taxi on the westbound lanes of the Interstate 595 off ramp to Interstate 95 southbound near Fort Lauderdale.
Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue units and Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene, where the taxi was smashed beyond recognition against a wall. Its airbags had deployed, and the back door and trunk were destroyed. The cement truck had front-end damage.
Paramedics took five people to Broward Health Medical Center and two people to Memorial Regional Hospital. Four adults and a child were transported as trauma alerts, while two other adults suffered minor injuries.
Troopers closed the ramp while they investigated the crash, and traffic on the regular portion of I-595 was still moving slowly after the closure. The cause of the crash was not identified, and the injured people were not named.
