says his 6-month-old son Jaycee is “doin’ great” — and still firmly in his mother’s corner. The country singer said the baby is “fat and happy,” smiles and giggles often, and lights up most when walks into the room.

“The biggest difference is that with my girls, they were daddy’s little girls,” Johnson said during a recent appearance on with Lon Helton. “They loved to cuddle and snuggle up. But anytime Brandi walks in the room, he goes ‘Mama, mama.’ So I’m chopped liver around my house.”

That is a different kind of homecoming than the one Johnson knew with Carla and Cori, his two daughters, who he said were always more snuggly with him. Jaycee, by contrast, has turned roughhousing into a game. Johnson said he can grab his son by the feet and scare him, and the baby responds by laughing and smiling. “He’s fun, though, man,” Johnson said. “He smiles a lot. He giggles.”

The Texas singer and his wife welcomed in October, adding a son to a family that had already been built around two girls. Last summer, at the , Brandi Johnson debuted her baby bump as the couple announced they were expecting their first boy, a moment that made clear the family of four was about to become a family of five.

Johnson said the change has been obvious at home, where his son seems to act one way around him and another around Brandi. With his father, Jaycee is all laughs. With his mother, Johnson said, he turns into “a little tiny baby.”

The family also explained last year where Jaycee’s name came from. He was named after , the family brand, which people had long mispronounced as “JC.” For Johnson, the name tied the newborn to the place and identity that have shaped much of his life.

What stands out now is not just that the family has grown, but how quickly the household has settled into new roles. Carla and Cori, Johnson said, are stepping into life as big sisters, while Jaycee is still in the phase where his mother is the center of the room.

That leaves Johnson in a familiar but less flattering position. The father who once had two daddy’s girls now says he is “chopped liver” when Brandi is around. For now, at least, the baby of the house has made his preference plain.

That is the real update today: Jaycee is healthy, lively and already running the room in his own way. For a family that spent last summer announcing it would grow, the newest Johnson has arrived exactly where he belongs — smiling, giggling and calling for mama.
