’s second shot on the 11th hole at the turned into a near-miss Friday when his ball struck a video camera held by a spectator about 10 yards away. The ball then ricocheted to the left after flaring off Clark’s club, narrowly missing several other people gathered around the shot.

The mishit came on the left side of the hole at Aronimink Golf Club, where about 50 people stood around Clark and his caddie as he played from a patchy lie. People to Clark’s right were about 5 yards away, while those to his left were less than 5 yards away. A young girl to the right of the person holding the camera squatted down after impact, and a man just beyond her jerked back. No one appeared to be injured.

An 11-second video of the incident was posted to by @abbiebrackin1 at about 5 p.m. ET, capturing the moment the ball clipped the camera and skipped away. Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open winner, was playing the second round of the PGA Championship just outside Philadelphia. He missed the cut and will not play the weekend.

Late Friday night, Clark had not posted any comments about the incident to his social media accounts. The clip leaves little doubt about how quickly a routine second shot can become a danger when spectators crowd close to the line of play. In this case, the ball missed by inches what could have been a much more serious collision.
