has agreed to pay $2.25 million to settle a class action that accused the bank of charging multiple out-of-network fees for balance inquiries at ATMs inside 7-Eleven stores. The settlement covers accountholders who say they were assessed more than one such fee during the same visit to an ATM between May 1, 2018, and Nov. 16, 2021.

The case, Schertzer, et al. v. Bank of America N.A., et al., centers on a claim that customers were billed twice for a single balance inquiry at 7-Eleven ATMs. Plaintiffs said that practice breached the bank’s contract with customers. Bank of America has not admitted wrongdoing.

The settlement matters now because the claims process is already open, and the deadlines are set. Current Bank of America accountholders do not need to file a claim to receive benefits, while former accountholders must submit one by June 29, 2026. Requests to exclude oneself from the deal or object to it are due July 7, 2026, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21, 2026.

According to the settlement website, is handling the administration, and the law firms listed include and Winston & Strawn LLP. The settlement also applies only to accountholders who did not make a valid claim and receive payment in Weiss v. FCTI Inc., another ATM-fee case tied to the same network of machines. That overlap leaves the most important practical question for many customers not about liability, but about whether they are already covered somewhere else.

Anyone who believes they are in the class has a limited window to act, with the deadline for a claim form falling nearly eight years after the class period began. Questions about the settlement can be directed to 833-447-8321 or by mail to P.O. Box 225391.
