Prince George’s County police launched a large-scale investigation Friday afternoon after gunfire was reported at multiple locations, including near 67th Avenue and Patterson Street, and two people were taken to the hospital. One suspect was in custody by evening after officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to what officials described as a critical incident.
One victim remained in critical condition, while details about the second victim’s injuries had not been released. Police also said investigators recovered at least one weapon at the scene. Authorities had not identified the suspect or said what charges could follow.
Sources familiar with the investigation said the episode may have started in Riverdale, where multiple 911 callers reported a person driving around and firing a gun into the air. Police later pursued the suspected shooter and apprehended the person in Greenbelt, and officials said there were no outstanding suspects.
The case stretched across several northern Prince George’s County neighborhoods rather than a single location, and investigators were still processing scenes and interviewing witnesses Friday evening. Law enforcement officials described the situation as active and evolving, but police had not said whether the victims were specifically targeted or whether the shootings were random.
That uncertainty leaves the core questions unanswered even as the immediate threat appears to have been contained: who was hurt, who was arrested, and what tied the separate reports together. For now, officials have confirmed only that one person is in custody, one victim is in critical condition, and the investigation is still being assembled scene by scene.
