is giving every user a free gift for its 20th anniversary: an in-app journey through their own listening history. The feature, available now to both Premium subscribers and free account holders, shows the first song they ever played on the service, the first day they used it, their most streamed artist, their top songs and the total number of unique tracks they have listened to over the years.

The company was founded in April 2006, but its app was not ready for public consumption until 2009, and the anniversary feature marks how far it has come since then. Users can also take part in a mini quiz about the first track they streamed, making the new experience feel like a sort-of supersized Wrapped built around each listener’s own history rather than the year just gone.

The timing matters because Spotify is using the anniversary to pull users back into the app while reminding them that not every feature is shared equally. Free accounts are ad-supported and limited in what listeners can hear, while lossless streaming and offline listening remain locked behind Premium. That split has long defined the service, which now offers Premium tiers starting at £5.99, or $6.99 a month for students, rising to £12.99, or $12.99 for Individual, £17.99, or $18.99 for Duo, and £21.99, or $21.99 for Family plans covering up to six people.

For all the nostalgia built into the new feature, its message is straightforward: Spotify’s 20-year story is not just about the songs people have streamed, but about how deeply the platform has mapped their habits over time. The answer to the question raised by the anniversary is already inside the app — and it is open to everyone who uses it today.
