Two people were taken to a hospital Saturday after a head-on collision in the Manteca area shut down part of W. Yosemite Avenue for hours. The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 2200 block between Airport Way and Swanson Road.
Police said a Chevy SUV traveling westbound turned in front of a Hyundai sedan headed eastbound for reasons that were not yet known. The Chevy driver, a 44-year-old Lathrop resident, was found unconscious in the backseat. His passenger, a 60-year-old Manteca resident, was ejected from the vehicle. Both were transported to a hospital.
The Hyundai driver, a 36-year-old Tracy resident, suffered minor injuries. Medical personnel treated the injured at the scene while police investigated, and the roadway remained closed for several hours.
The crash was the second head-on collision in the city in two days, a brief stretch that turned a routine weekend drive into a dangerous scene twice over. The cause of the Chevrolet’s turn was still under investigation, and that unanswered question will shape what police determine next about fault and whether anyone faces further scrutiny. For drivers and families caught in a crash like this, the next step is often a medical bill, a police report and, sometimes, a call to auto accident attorneys.
