Two lanes of the A339 were closed on May 15 and the road was shut towards Kingsclere from 1pm before reopening at around 2.45pm. Police said the closure was linked to a concern for welfare incident involving a woman who is now safe and well.
A reader photograph from the scene showed orange cones and a blue sign reading “Police, Road Closed.” The short closure disrupted traffic on the route for a little under two hours, with the road reopening once officers said the incident had been dealt with.
The move was described by police as being in relation to a concern for welfare incident, a reminder that not every road closure comes from a crash or roadworks. In this case, the priority was the welfare of the woman involved, and officers said she was safe and well by the time the A339 reopened.
With the road open again at around 2.45pm, the immediate question for drivers was answered quickly: the closure was temporary, and the situation at the centre of it had been resolved.
