Tilak Varma has been named captain of the 15-member India A squad for the tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, with Riyan Parag appointed vice-captain. The white-ball tournament begins on June 9 in Dambulla and runs through June 21, giving India a young squad a short but intense run in Sri Lanka.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi earned his maiden India A call-up after scoring 440 runs in 11 IPL matches in the 2026 season. Priyansh Arya, Suryansh Shedge and Anshul Kamboj were also included, underlining the selectors’ focus on recent domestic and IPL form. Tilak, a Mumbai Indians batter, will be tasked with leading a side that blends established youth with several players still trying to turn club-level success into higher honors.
The tri-series is only one part of a broader India A tour that will also feature two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A in Galle. Those red-ball fixtures will be staged separately from the white-ball games in Dambulla, and the BCCI said the squad for that longer format will be announced later. For now, the attention stays on the limited-overs group and on how quickly India’s next wave can settle into a tournament that starts almost immediately.
That split schedule matters because it gives selectors a clear look at who can handle different formats and different conditions without mixing the groups. It also leaves one important question hanging over the tour: which players do enough in Dambulla to force their way into the red-ball side when it is named later?
