Amanda Seyfried is heading back into the world of Ted. Peacock’s new sequel series, TED: THE ANIMATED SERIES, will stream later this year with Seyfried reprising her film role alongside Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg and Jessica Barth.
Wahlberg said in a recent interview that production on the first season had already finished recording. He described the new chapter in blunt terms, saying Ted now has two kids and calling the bear’s family life “bad,” while adding that the show is “very unapologetic” and “hardcore.”
The series extends a franchise that began with the 2012 film Ted, which became a huge box-office hit and grossed over $540 million worldwide. Ted 2 followed in 2015 and earned $216 million globally, helping turn the foul-mouthed bear into one of the more durable comedy properties of the last decade. Peacock later took the story into live-action, and the animated series is being positioned as a direct continuation of the films.
MacFarlane has said the move to animation fits the character better than live action, arguing in an interview that Ted is built around personality rather than spectacle. But he also said the bear itself remains expensive to create, explaining that the CGI element is what makes the project challenging even though the format could support many seasons.
That tension is the point of the new series: the world of Ted is built for long-form comedy, but every episode still has to pay for the bear. With the first season already recorded and a Peacock release expected later this year, the only unresolved detail is when viewers will finally get the date.
