Cameron Boozer has turned a shaky debut into a strong early statement, and the Sacramento Kings will see it up close Sunday when they host the Memphis Grizzlies in Sacramento. The No. 3 overall pick is averaging 16.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game, a line that has made him one of the early stories of the 2026-27 campaign.
That start matters because Boozer did not open with a clean night. He was 2-for-15 in his season opener, then answered with 25 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors on Friday. He has also grabbed 11 rebounds and 13 rebounds in his first two games, which is why his presence on the glass is drawing attention against a Kings team that has already stumbled twice.
Memphis comes in unbeaten after opening the season with wins over the Golden State Warriors and Utah, a run that has helped support the view before the season that the club could push into the play-in picture. Sacramento, by contrast, has already absorbed a bad loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and then covered at home in a defeat to Portland, results that fit the rough start many expected from a team projected to be among the NBA's worst.
There is still a catch for Memphis. Zach Edey is out, and that absence can trim the team’s ceiling even in a favorable spot. Cedric Coward is questionable, which leaves one more layer of uncertainty around the rotation and the frontcourt work that could fall more heavily on Boozer.
That is what makes Sunday worth watching: not just whether the Grizzlies stay perfect, but whether Boozer can keep producing at this pace when the game asks more of him. If he keeps controlling the boards the way he has through two outings, the matchup could look less like an early-season test and more like another step in his rapid rise.
