The Lakers are being backed to beat the Clippers outright on Friday night at Crypto.com Arena, with tipoff set for 10 p.m. ET in the latest Battle of Los Angeles. The projection leans on a Los Angeles team that has not found a win since the start of the 2023-24 regular season, while the Lakers arrive after a 127-105 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
That result mattered because the Lakers did more than win by 22 points. They got 77 points from three starters, and Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler each shot 60 percent from the field against the Warriors. Kessler was perfect, going 12-of-12, a level of efficiency that gives Los Angeles another route to pressure a Clippers side that has covered the spread only once during its six-game losing streak.
The recent form behind this matchup is tilted, but not wildly so. The Clippers are 0-6 straight up since the start of the 2023-24 regular season, yet all but one of those losses came by six points or fewer. That is the kind of run that can look uglier in the standings than it does on the scoreboard, and it leaves room for a narrow game if the Clippers can finally convert close possessions into one more play at the end.
There is also a totals angle that fits the same pattern of close margins. The Clippers and Lakers have gone 4-7 in the totals market in their last 11 meetings since Jan. 7, 2024, and each of the five most recent Unders in the series landed within five points of Friday's total. In other words, the rivalry has been tight enough to leave little margin for error, even when the final result has gone one way.
Rui Hachimura gives that thread a personal edge. The former Laker is now with the Clippers, and he scored 10 points in 32 minutes on 13 shot attempts against Sacramento, a reminder that volume alone has not translated into a big night. In his last season with the Lakers, he reached 18 points or more in only 13.2 percent of his games played, so Friday places him on the other side of a familiar team with a chance to shape the outcome in a game that already feels like it belongs to the late-night stage.
Tyronn Lue is also expected to have Brook Lopez available for playing time, and Lopez followed Wednesday with 11 rebounds, adding another frontcourt variable to a matchup that has been tight across recent meetings. The Lakers have the cleaner form, the stronger recent showing and the current edge in the matchup, but the Clippers have spent much of this losing streak staying close enough to make the final stretch matter. Friday at 10 p.m. ET will show whether that is enough to keep the Battle of Los Angeles inside the number or finally turn into a result.
