The Chicago Bears are being urged to look at Calvin Ridley as a veteran upgrade, and that move would change Kalif Raymond's place in the offense. If Ridley were added, Raymond would shift into the fourth receiver role, giving the Bears another layer of depth without forcing him to carry as much of the load.
That idea is being raised now because the Bears are trying to build toward contention and a Super Bowl run, even with a roster already described as rich in playmaking depth. The case for adding Ridley is simple: if a team wants sustained expected contention, it can keep shopping for more.
Ridley finished the 2024 season with 1,017 receiving yards and four touchdowns, production that keeps him in the conversation even as his fit with the Titans is questioned. He is no longer viewed as a clean match there, and the Bears are being framed as a possible landing spot for a receiver who still brings veteran value.
What he offers now is different from what made him a star earlier in his career. Ridley is not expected to overwhelm a defense with pure speed or a long catch-and-run threat, but he is still described as an elite route runner at this stage. That skill set could matter for Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Zavion Thomas, because a cleaner route tree and another credible target can alter how defenses play the entire group.
That is where the argument gets sharper. The Bears already have plenty of playmaking depth, yet the pitch for Ridley is that depth alone is not the same thing as finishing power. Raymond is useful in the current structure because he can cover more than one job, but adding Ridley would reduce the concern that the returner has to be a vital part of both special teams and the Chicago offense at the same time.
The unresolved piece is not whether Ridley can help. It is whether the Bears will actually make the move. If they do, Raymond becomes the fourth receiver, the offense gets another veteran option, and the Bears keep pressing for the kind of upgrade teams make when they believe they are close enough to chase more than a playoff berth.
