Utah placed Jamal Wallace on an indefinite suspension on Oct. 11 after police arrested the backup defensive tackle on five counts of distribution of an intimate image. The move removed him from the program the same day the arrest became public, ending his role with the team for now.

Wallace had played only one game for Utah, appearing in a few snaps against Idaho in Week 1 after transferring in In January ahead of the 2026 season. That brief on-field stretch now sits beside far more serious allegations, and the case has become one of the clearest discipline issues Utah has faced this fall.

Police said the arrest followed a report from a woman he had been dating, who said he forcibly raped her and shared videos of the incident on Snapchat with others. She said the encounter began on a couch during a conversation about infidelity and their relationship, then escalated when he grabbed her head and forced her to perform oral sex, kept holding her down after she tried to resume talking, pushed her onto an ottoman, and later forced sex in a bedroom while saying she belonged to him.

She also said Wallace took her phone, recorded the assault without her knowledge and sent the video to five people on Snapchat. Salt Lake police said they found videos of the incident after reviewing her Snapchat account. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on five counts of distribution of an intimate image.

Utah said it acted immediately after learning of the arrest. Officials said they were made aware of the situation on Oct. 11 and that Wallace was placed on an indefinite suspension, adding that the school takes such matters seriously and had no further comment because the case is pending. The suspension gives no end date, which means Wallace will remain out until Utah decides otherwise or the legal case changes the picture.

For Utah, the case is not just about losing a depth piece. It now sits at the intersection of team discipline, criminal allegations and the question of whether Wallace will face any further program action beyond the suspension already in place.
