Rotowire FPL guide: Chelsea and Brentford headline Gameweek 8 fixture swings

Gameweek 8 brings a fixture swing that pushes Chelsea and Brentford to the front of the Fantasy Premier League queue. Chelsea have three of their next four games at home, with Spurs, Manchester United and Leeds coming to Stamford Bridge and only a trip to Sunderland breaking that run. Brentford, meanwhile, get Hull, Forest and Everton in three of their next four, which is enough to make their best options stand out for managers looking to move early.

That matters now because transfers are being made on fixture timing as much as form, and the next stretch gives managers a clear map. Chelsea’s appeal is built around security as well as schedule. Joao Pedro is the standout option after Haaland among forwards, while Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers have both returned consistently and look well placed to keep doing so. All three are secure starters because they do not have European football to pull on their minutes.

Brentford are the other team to circle. Kevin Schade is the player who excites the writer most, and for good reason: he is back from a shoulder injury after playing nearly every minute before it. With Vitaly Janelt and Yehor Yarmoliuk suspended, Mamadou Sangare owners can relax about his minutes against Hull. Kristoffer Ajer also fits the brief as a cheap defender who has been picking up defensive contributions regularly, especially with a side sitting in the bottom three for expected goals visiting.

There is a catch on the list, and it changes the tone at the top. Bukayo Saka was the best option before an injury on Wednesday, but he should not be added until more information is released. For now, the sensible move may be to stay with Arsenal’s back line instead, where David Raya, Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori remain the safest picks. Arsenal still have Everton and Hull at home in Gameweeks 8 and 10, so the long view still looks strong even if the headline name is on hold.

Spurs also deserve attention, with Palace, Ipswich and Fulham all shaping up as favorable home matchups. James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski helped Spurs beat Coventry City on Monday, and Dominic Solanke is the forward to target if managers want attack with minutes security. Jan Paul van Hecke is the defender to watch there, while Antonin Kinsky remains a decent rotating goalkeeper for anyone who already has him.

Bournemouth are the more subtle play. Their schedule runs through an out-of-sorts Manchester United before Leeds, Ipswich, Forest and Fulham, and the numbers suggest the fixture is friendlier than the results have shown. They have shipped 13 goals this season, yet still rank second in the league for expected goals conceded, which is why Antonio Silva is a fair option for defensive contributions. Marcus Tavernier is still the pick of the attack, but European football has started to reduce the full 90s he was getting early on, so his minutes need watching. For managers planning Wildcards or a longer-term rebuild, the path is clear: Chelsea and Brentford first, Arsenal still trusted, and Saka left on the bench for now until the injury picture becomes clearer.
